When was the technolgy developed?
The idea was first thought by Eugene F. Lally from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. His purpose was for austronauts to use for navigation information during their missions visiting planets. It was then developed by Texas Instrumets in 1972, but many believe that it had not been actually built. On the other hand, Steve Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak, successfully recorded his attempt of building a digital camera. It was then renewed by Fairchild Semiconducter in 1973. That one weighed 8 pounds and had a resolution of 0.01 megapixel.
Where would you find this technology?
You can find this technology as an instrument itself or in hand phones or computers that include this technology. This technology is usually in a portable form so people can easily bring it along everywhere they go.
Do you personally own a device with this technology?
Yes, I own a digital camera, a hand phone, and a computer that has this technology.
What are the main uses for this technology?
Even though a digital camera is made quite differently to older cameras like conventional cameras, it basically has the same use, except much more advanced. Other than capturing images and transferring them to the computer, some digital cameras can even record sound or videos.
Are there other uses that you can think of?
The digital camera is very useful as the use of the images captured by it can be used for a lot of things. Other than allowing us to remember the memories forever, it can also be used as something more public, like for advertisement of products or shows.
Do you feel this technology will still be used in 10 years from now or be replaced with something better?
Yes, I think this technology will still be used in 10 years from now because it had already been developed into a much simpler product from film cameras. Now, by using digital cameras, we can take pictures with greater quality on which we can delete and transfer to the computer, whereas film cameras could not. I think digital cameras will still be used in the future but with better quality and more advances to it.
